Bob Ryan began his insurance career as an underwriter with Fireman’s Fund and later worked with Insurance Company of North America. He eventually accepted an agent position with an agency in Richardson, Texas, where he discovered his passion for serving clients and his desire to build an independent agency of his own.

In 1979, Bob founded The Ryan Insurance Agency and operated it alongside his wife, Johnnie. Together, they developed an agency serving both personal and commercial insurance clients and built much of the business through relationships and client referrals.

Bob earned the Certified Insurance Counselor designation and became particularly respected for his knowledge of commercial insurance, policy language and claims. Underwriters, fellow agents and legal professionals frequently sought his insight. He believed an insurance professional should understand the product—not simply sell it.

Bob and Johnnie were also active in their community through numerous civic, business and charitable organizations in Garland, Rowlett and Rockwall. Their commitment to relationships extended beyond the agency and into the communities they served.

Education was always central to the way Bob and Johnnie operated Ryan Insurance. They encouraged the professional development of their agents and established a standard that continues to guide the agency today.
